“It doesn’t really matter what the thing is that we tell ourselves because we ultimately believe it. So if you’re going to make up stories, make up good ones.”

- Alex Hedison, artist

My work is all about helping people think differently so they can create more change that matters. I've come to believe that our internal narratives are fundamental to our wellbeing and performance, both at home and at work.

For the past few years I’ve been thinking a lot about these internal narratives - the stories we tell to make sense of the world. Like all of us, you have a lifetime of practice interpreting situations through stories. You’re very good at it. So good in fact, you might not even realize you’re doing it. The trick is to learn to catch yourself when you’re telling stories that are causing you grief. Once you do that, you get to change the story to one that serves you. What you practice grows stronger. As is the case with any skill, the more you do it, the easier it gets.

I have a new program!

I’m delighted to let you know about my new “The Inside Story - Interrogating Our Internal Narratives to Create Meaningful Change” program. It’s all about the stories we tell to make sense of the world and how we can intentionally create stories that serve us. I’m really proud of the program and I can deliver it either as a speech for large groups or a workshop for smaller teams.

Contact me to talk about bringing The Inside Story to your next event.

I’m curious - when have you changed your perception of events by changing the story?
